What Did They Call It Now?
Track every Microsoft product rename in one place
Why did Microsoft rename so many products?
Microsoft consolidates products into unified brands (like Defender, Entra, Purview) for consistency. Sometimes products merge, split, or expand beyond their original scope. The rename tracker documents every change.
How many product renames are tracked?
Over 40 products with 65+ name changes dating back to 2006. We cover identity (Entra), security (Defender), compliance (Purview), AI (Copilot), productivity, and developer tools.
Is Azure AD really called Entra ID now?
Yes! Azure Active Directory was renamed to Microsoft Entra ID in July 2023. Azure AD Premium P1/P2 became Entra ID P1/P2. The old names still work but Microsoft is phasing them out in documentation and admin portals.
Which product has been renamed the most?
Microsoft Configuration Manager wins with 4 name changes: SMS → SCCM → Endpoint Configuration Manager → Configuration Manager. Intune is close behind with 3 renames.
Is this data kept up to date?
