Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to start with AZ-900?
Not required, but recommended for newcomers to Azure. AZ-900 covers cloud concepts, Azure architecture, and pricing — solid foundations that show up in every Associate exam. Experienced engineers can skip straight to AZ-104 or AZ-204.
What's the highest-paid Azure certification?
Salary surveys consistently put Expert-level certs (AZ-305 Solutions Architect, SC-100 Cybersecurity Architect, AZ-400 DevOps) at the top — typically $140k–$180k+ in mature markets. AZ-700 Networking is now an Associate (it was reclassified from Specialty) and pays well alongside AZ-104.
What's DP-700 Fabric Engineer?
Microsoft's newest data certification, launched in 2024. It validates skills in Microsoft Fabric — the unified data platform combining Power BI, Data Factory, Synapse, and OneLake. Hot path for data engineers in 2026.
Do Microsoft certs expire?
Associate, Expert, and Specialty certifications expire annually. Renew for free by passing a short online assessment on Microsoft Learn. Fundamentals (AZ-900, AI-900, etc.) don't expire.
