About the XSOAR-Engineer Exam
Build and maintain Cortex XSOAR — Palo Alto Networks’ standalone Security Orchestration, Automation and Response platform
250 original practice questions for the Palo Alto Networks Certified XSOAR Engineer exam (XSOAR-Engineer). Covers all 5 official domains: Planning, Installation, and Maintenance; Use Case Planning and Development; Playbook Development; Incident Interactions and Reporting; and Threat Intelligence Management. Every question includes a real-world SOAR-engineering scenario, detailed explanations, why-wrong analysis, and exam tips — spanning engine deployment and content lifecycle, Marketplace pack and integration-instance configuration, classifiers and mappers, incident types, layouts and SLAs, playbook task types and context-data manipulation, filters and transformers, custom automation scripts and jobs, the War Room, and indicator enrichment, source reliability, and sharing.
Who Should Take This Exam?
The XSOAR-Engineer is designed for security automation engineers, SOAR content developers, and SOC engineers who build and maintain Cortex XSOAR. It validates the skills to deploy and configure the platform (engines, authentication, dev/prod content lifecycle, Marketplace packs, integration instances), engineer the incident lifecycle (classifiers, mappers, incident types, fields, layouts, SLAs, pre/post-processing), develop playbooks and automation scripts, and manage threat intelligence. (It is distinct from the XSIAM exams: XSIAM Analyst uses the platform as a SOC analyst, and XSIAM Engineer builds the XSIAM SIEM/XDR platform — this exam is about the standalone XSOAR product.)
Typical study time: 5-8 weeks alongside hands-on Cortex XSOAR content-development experience

Exam Domains & Weights
The XSOAR-Engineer exam covers 5 domains. Focus your study time based on the weights below — higher-weighted domains have more exam questions.
| Domain | Weight | Practice Qs |
|---|---|---|
| Planning, Installation, and Maintenance | 14% | 35 |
| Use Case Planning and Development | 22% | 55 |
| Playbook Development | 30% | 75 |
| Incident Interactions and Reporting | 16% | 40 |
| Threat Intelligence Management | 18% | 45 |
| Total | 100% | 250 |
💡 Study tip: Playbook Development (30%) is by far the heaviest domain — master task inputs/outputs and results, the task types (conditional, data-collection, manual, section), sub-playbook inputs/outputs and looping, context-data manipulation with the transform language, the difference between filters and transformers, the playbook debugger, and writing custom automation scripts. Use Case Planning and Development (22%) is next: know cold the difference between a classifier (decides the incident type) and a mapper (maps fields), plus pre-processing rules versus post-processing scripts. Don’t underweight Threat Intelligence Management (18%) — indicator creation methods, source reliability grading, and exclusion lists show up throughout.

Study Tips
- Live in the playbook editor — Playbook Development is 30% of the exam; build real playbooks with conditional tasks, sub-playbooks, loops, filters, and transformers until the mechanics are second nature
- Nail classifier vs mapper — a classifier decides the incident type; a mapper maps fields in and out. Confusing the two is the most common exam trap
- Use our practice exam — try the 20 free questions first to gauge your readiness
- Review explanations — don’t just check if you got it right; read why each answer is correct
- Know the content lifecycle — Marketplace pack dependencies, dev/prod remote repositories, and integration-instance troubleshooting underpin the Planning and Maintenance domain
- Simulate exam conditions — use the timed exam mode to practice under pressure
