About the SD-WAN Engineer Exam
Design, deploy, operate, and troubleshoot Prisma SD-WAN from the ION edge to Strata Cloud Manager and Unified SASE.
The Palo Alto Networks Certified SD-WAN Engineer certification validates product-specific engineering skills across the Prisma SD-WAN lifecycle. It covers planning and design, ION deployment and site configuration, branch and data-center routing, VRF segmentation, policy-driven path selection, operations and monitoring, Unified SASE integration, and evidence-led troubleshooting. The exam expects you to understand how ION devices, AppFabric, stacked policies, WAN Clarity, ADEM, Cloud Identity Engine, Device-ID, User-ID, and Strata Copilot fit together in a real branch and data-center design.
Who Should Take This Exam?
This is a specialist-level certification for SD-WAN and SASE engineers, network engineers and administrators, professional-services consultants, and support engineers who plan, deploy, operate, or troubleshoot Prisma SD-WAN.
Hands-on familiarity with routing, WAN design, BGP and OSPF, QoS, IPsec, network monitoring, and policy-driven traffic steering is useful. The exam is product-specific: generic SD-WAN knowledge is not enough without understanding Prisma SD-WAN objects, workflows, evidence, and current Strata Cloud Manager terminology.

Study tip: Keep the object boundaries clear. A Circuit, Circuit Label, and Circuit Category are different things. Analytics mode observes; Control mode joins the fabric and enforces policy. A routing failure, unhealthy path, and policy-selection problem can produce similar symptoms, so always prove the fault domain with site, flow, route, incident, and policy evidence before changing configuration.
