About the Nutanix NCP-MCI Exam

Master the Nutanix Certified Professional - Multicloud Infrastructure (NCP-MCI 7.5) exam — deploying and configuring AOS clusters and Prism Central, managing AHV workloads and storage, protecting data with Protection Domains and Nutanix Disaster Recovery, and operating a Nutanix multicloud platform end to end.

The complete practice exam for the Nutanix Certified Professional - Multicloud Infrastructure (NCP-MCI 7.5) certification, built on current Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure and AOS 7.5. Covers managing clusters in a multicloud environment (Foundation imaging and cluster deployment, the Controller VM and Acropolis Distributed Storage Fabric, replication factor RF2 and RF3 with node, block, and rack fault domains, Prism Element versus Prism Central, AHV networking with Open vSwitch, uplink bond modes and LACP, VLANs and IPAM, storage pools and containers with inline compression, Elastic Dedupe and EC-X erasure coding, and cluster security with RBAC, cluster lockdown, and data-at-rest encryption); managing workloads (the AHV virtual-machine lifecycle, live migration, high availability, Acropolis Dynamic Scheduling, affinity and anti-affinity, the image service, guest customization with cloud-init and Sysprep and Nutanix Guest Tools, Nutanix Volumes, Files, and Objects storage services, workload migration with Nutanix Move, and workload security with Flow microsegmentation); performing DR and data protection (Protection Domains and Consistency Groups, snapshots and recovery points, remote sites and asynchronous replication, NearSync, synchronous Metro Availability with a witness, and Prism Central-based Nutanix Disaster Recovery with Protection Policies and Recovery Plans); and operations and monitoring (capacity runway and forecasting, Prism dashboards and alerts, Nutanix Cluster Check health checks, Life Cycle Manager upgrades, cluster expansion and maintenance mode, and licensing) — every question an original real-world Nutanix operations scenario with full explanations.

Who Should Take This Exam?

The NCP-MCI certification is designed for system administrators, virtualization engineers, infrastructure and platform engineers, and SREs who deploy, configure, and operate Nutanix hyperconverged clusters in private and multicloud environments. It validates practical, day-to-day skills across cluster management, workloads, data protection, and operations on the Nutanix Cloud Platform.

Prerequisites: None required (Nutanix recommends ~1 year of holistic IT-infrastructure experience and the Enterprise Cloud Administration course)

Typical study time: 4-8 weeks of focused study

Exam Domains & Weights

The NCP-MCI exam is organised into 4 official sections. Nutanix does not publish per-section percentages, so the weights below reflect each section’s breadth in our 250-question practice exam — use them to plan study time.

DomainWeightPractice Qs
Manage Clusters in a Multicloud Environment30%75
Manage Workloads in a Multicloud Environment30%75
Perform DR and Data Protection in a Multicloud Environment20%50
Perform Operations and Monitoring in a Multicloud Environment20%50
Total100%250

💡 Study tip: Cluster management and workload management together carry the majority of the exam, so be fluent in the Prism Element versus Prism Central split, replication factor (RF2 needs 3 nodes, RF3 needs 5), when EC-X and compression apply, AHV bond modes (balance-tcp requires LACP), and the AHV VM lifecycle. For data protection, know the two DR models cold — Prism Element Protection Domains and Metro Availability versus Prism Central Nutanix DR with Protection Policies and Recovery Plans — and that NearSync is asynchronous (not zero-RPO) while Metro is synchronous. For operations, practice LCM upgrades, NCC health checks, maintenance mode, and capacity forecasting.

Study Tips

  1. Master the two management planes — know exactly which capabilities live in Prism Element (per-cluster) versus Prism Central (multi-cluster, often license-gated)
  2. Use our practice exam — try the 20 free questions first to gauge your readiness
  3. Get hands-on — a Nutanix Community Edition or test cluster is the fastest way to internalise clusters, storage containers, VMs, and Protection Domains
  4. Review explanations — don’t just check if you got it right; read why each answer is correct
