About the Nutanix NCA Exam
Master the Nutanix Certified Associate (NCA 7.5) exam — the foundational Nutanix credential: recognizing Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure and the wider portfolio and tools, administering virtual machines, storage, and networking in Prism, configuring and maintaining clusters, and understanding platform health and monitoring.
The complete practice exam for the Nutanix Certified Associate (NCA 7.5) certification, built on current Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure with AOS 7.5, AHV 11.0, and Prism Central pc.7.5. NCA is the entry point to the Nutanix certification track — an awareness-level exam that validates your ability to recognize what Nutanix products do and to perform basic operational tasks in the Prism UI. Covers recognizing Nutanix solutions and tools (the core Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure components — the Controller VM, the Acropolis Distributed Storage Fabric, and the supported hypervisors AHV, ESXi, and Hyper-V — plus awareness of Nutanix Unified Storage with Files, Volumes, and Objects, the Nutanix Database Service, Nutanix Cloud Manager, the Nutanix Kubernetes Platform, Nutanix Enterprise AI, and End-User Computing, and the tools Move, Nutanix Guest Tools, Foundation, Witness, Self-Service Restore, X-Ray, and Collector); describing Nutanix platform administration (deploying and configuring VMs, assigning categories, taking snapshots, creating subnets and virtual switches, storage optimizations such as compression, deduplication, and EC-X erasure coding, redundancy factors RF2 and RF3, the storage types, and licensing); describing cluster configuration and maintenance (DNS, SMTP, SNMP, and NTP, cluster fault-tolerance levels, Prism Central settings, security options, node maintenance mode and expansion, out-of-band management, and Life Cycle Manager software upgrades); and demonstrating understanding of platform health and monitoring (Nutanix Cluster Check health checks, log collection, Metric versus Entity charts, Pulse and Insights, alerts and events, support cases, and interpreting workload performance and resource contention) — every question an original real-world Nutanix scenario with full explanations.
Who Should Take This Exam?
The NCA certification is designed for new IT employees, Tier-1 and help-desk support engineers, junior Nutanix administrators, and students beginning their Nutanix journey. It validates foundational awareness of the Nutanix product portfolio and the ability to navigate the Prism UI and perform basic operational tasks — the natural stepping stone before the professional-level NCP tracks.
Prerequisites: None required (Nutanix recommends ~3-6 months of IT-infrastructure experience and the Nutanix Hybrid Cloud Fundamentals course)
Typical study time: 2-4 weeks of focused study

Exam Domains & Weights
The NCA exam is organised into 4 official sections. Nutanix does not publish per-section percentages, so the weights below reflect each section’s breadth in our 250-question practice exam — use them to plan study time.
| Domain | Weight | Practice Qs |
|---|---|---|
| Recognize Nutanix Solutions and Tools | 26% | 64 |
| Describe Nutanix Platform Administration | 26% | 66 |
| Describe Cluster Configuration and Maintenance | 24% | 60 |
| Demonstrate Understanding of Platform Health and Monitoring | 24% | 60 |
| Total | 100% | 250 |
💡 Study tip: NCA is an awareness exam, so breadth beats depth. Be able to match each Nutanix product to its use case — Volumes (iSCSI block) versus Files (SMB/NFS) versus Objects (S3), NDB for databases, NCM for cloud management, NKP for Kubernetes — and know each tool’s job (Move migrates, NGT is the in-guest agent, Foundation images, Witness is the tiebreaker, X-Ray tests, Collector sizes). For platform administration, know the Prism basics: VM tasks and categories, the default virtual switch (vs0) and bond modes (balance-tcp needs LACP), and RF2 versus RF3. For health and monitoring, remember the Metric-versus-Entity chart distinction, that Pulse feeds Insights for proactive support, and how CPU-ready, CPU contention, memory, and I/O latency signal oversubscription.

Nutanix Certification Path
The NCA (Nutanix Certified Associate) is the foundational Nutanix credential and the natural first step before the professional-level tracks. After NCA, most candidates progress to the NCP-MCI (Multicloud Infrastructure) for hands-on cluster operations, then specialise across disaster recovery, unified storage, and cloud automation in the wider Nutanix Certified Professional and Master (NCM) tracks.
Study Tips
- Learn the portfolio map — for every product (NCI, Unified Storage, NDB, NCM, NKP, Enterprise AI, EUC) and tool (Move, NGT, Foundation, Witness, SSR, X-Ray, Collector), be able to state its one-line use case
- Use our practice exam — try the 20 free questions first to gauge your readiness
- Get hands-on in Prism — a Nutanix Community Edition cluster is the fastest way to internalise VMs, categories, storage containers, health checks, and alerts
- Review explanations — don’t just check if you got it right; read why each answer is correct
- Check the official page — official exam details always have the latest objectives
