Effectively: pay with your time (around 40-60 hours of training), get the cert at zero cost.

Is Fortinet NSE 4 worth getting if I have CCNA Security or PCNSA? #

Depends on your target jobs. Service providers, MSSPs, and any enterprise with a Fortinet footprint value NSE4. If you’re in a Cisco-only or Palo Alto-only environment, the time is better spent on the vendor in front of you. NSE4 specifically covers FortiGate firewall operations — different config model than Cisco ASA / FTD or PAN-OS. Multi-vendor security engineers carry several vendor certs; junior engineers usually focus on one.

FortiOS 7.6 for the current NSE 4 - FortiOS 7.6 Administrator exam. Fortinet updates the exam blueprint when major FortiOS versions ship — older study material (FortiOS 7.0 or earlier) is missing features around ZTNA, SASE integration, and FortiAI. Use the Fortinet documentation library to track changes between versions if you’re studying with older material.

Does NSE4 expire and how do I renew? #

Yes — NSE certifications are valid for 2 years (shorter than most enterprise certs because Fortinet ships meaningful updates more often). Renewal is done by passing the current version of NSE4 (or progressing to NSE5 / NSE7 in the same track). Fortinet’s NSE recertification policy details the requirements. If you let it lapse, you reinstate by passing the current version.
