Master GitOps end to end — the core terminology (desired state, drift, reconciliation, the state store, feedback loops, and rollback), the four OpenGitOps principles (declarative; versioned and immutable; pulled automatically; continuously reconciled), the practices that surround GitOps (Configuration as Code, Infrastructure as Code, DevOps/DevSecOps, and CI/CD), the deployment, progressive-delivery, and architecture patterns, and the tool-agnostic tooling landscape (manifest packaging, state stores, and reconciliation engines such as Argo CD and Flux). Who Should Take This Exam?

The CGOA is designed for platform engineers, DevOps engineers, SREs, release engineers, and engineering leads who are adopting or evaluating GitOps. There are no formal prerequisites; a working familiarity with Git, CI/CD, and Kubernetes-style declarative configuration is helpful but not required. Because the exam is tool-agnostic, it tests your understanding of the GitOps model itself rather than any single product.

💡 Study tip: GitOps Principles (30%) is the single heaviest domain — memorize the four OpenGitOps principles (declarative; versioned and immutable; pulled automatically; continuously reconciled) and be able to judge whether a described system actually satisfies all four. A CI pipeline that runs kubectl apply on merge is automation, but it is not GitOps (it is push-based and not continuously reconciled). Terminology (20%) and Patterns (20%) are the next priorities.
