About the CAPA Exam

Automate delivery and workflows on Kubernetes with the Argo Project

Master the Argo Project ecosystem — Argo Workflows (the Workflow spec, template types, WorkflowTemplates and CronWorkflows, DAG dependencies, artifacts, and data-processing jobs), Argo CD (declarative GitOps continuous delivery, the Application CRD, automated sync with prune and self-heal, sync waves and hooks, Helm and Kustomize sources, and reconciliation), Argo Rollouts (the Rollout CRD, blue-green and canary progressive delivery, traffic management, and AnalysisTemplate/AnalysisRun), and Argo Events (event-driven automation with EventSources, the EventBus, Sensors, and Triggers). Original practice questions covering all 4 official CAPA domains. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sourced from CNCF or Linux Foundation certification exams.

Who Should Take This Exam?

The CAPA is designed for platform engineers, DevOps engineers, SREs, and data engineers who build delivery pipelines and event-driven automation with the Argo Project on Kubernetes. There are no formal prerequisites; hands-on experience with Kubernetes and at least one Argo tool (Workflows, CD, Rollouts, or Events) is recommended.

Typical study time: 3-5 weeks of focused study

Exam Domains & Weights

The CAPA exam covers 4 domains. Focus your study time based on the weights below — higher-weighted domains have more exam questions.

DomainWeightPractice Qs
Argo Workflows36%90
Argo CD34%85
Argo Rollouts18%45
Argo Events12%30
Total100%250

💡 Study tip: Argo Workflows (36%) and Argo CD (34%) together are 70% of the exam — build a solid mental model of the Workflow spec/DAGs and the Argo CD Application/sync model first. Argo Events (12%) is the smallest slice, but the exam expects you to know the EventSource -> EventBus -> Sensor -> Trigger flow.

CNCF Certification Path

Start with KCNA (Kubernetes and Cloud Native Associate) for cloud native fundamentals. The CAPA (Argo Project) is the GitOps and workflow-automation specialist credential, pairing naturally with the Kubernetes track — CKA (administrator), CKAD (developer), and KCSA/CKS (security) — and with PCA (Prometheus) for observability.
